Salta, Argentina

The colourful hills of Salta

High Mountain Museum
This museum in Salta has three child-mummies on display that were discovered here in 1999, buried at the very top of a mountain 6,700m high.
Scientists are pretty sure they were all human sacrifices, though the museum and the local Incan descendents deny it. They were buried with nice clothes and toys and mini things representing their village - like toy camels made of platinum!

The museum doesn't let people take photos - but if you want to see them National Geographic have covered it in Child Mummy Sacrifice.
