Iquique, Chile

25 March 2010

We spent most of the first day at the police station.
They spoke very little english so we had a few misunderstandings... I just wanted a written report, but they thought I wanted them to catch the thief! They spent about half an hour trying to explain how obviously hard that would be...

Anyway, eventually we learned how to talk to each other so we had a good chat about the All Blacks and the Christchurch earthquakes while they wrote up my report.
Then they decided our hostel was too dodgy, so two officers escorted us back and wanted to get us a refund. They tried hard to look intimidating! They walked in, slowly took off their sunglasses, flashed their badges and guns, and told the managers "These girls are involved in an investigation and they need to leave now".
It was pretty cool.
No refund though...

And they organised us a good price at a better hostel, which turned out to be only 100m from the police station...
